AIG announced that Iberia, the national carrier of Spain, will be launching direct flights from Madrid to Amman.
Iberia will start operating flights once a week between its hub in Madrid and Amman during the summer season, beginning July 3rd and running until the end of October. Flights will be offered aboard Airbus 319 aircraft and will be added to Royal Jordanian's Code Share flights between the two capitals, as outlined by the OneWorld Alliance, of which both airlines are members.
Curtis Grad CEO of AIG commented "The new Iberia service will add further depth and frequency to QAIA's rapidly expanding route network, which now includes no less than 40 carriers and 60 destinations." ."
Mr. Nayef Al-Fayez Managing Director of the Jordan Tourism Board said in this occasion: "The Spanish market is one of our most important markets. We are very happy that Iberia is now launching direct flights to Jordan and welcome this new addition that will increase the capacity of traffic to Jordan from Spain. Jordan and Spain have always enjoyed good relations and we look forward to future expansions."
The rehabilitation and expansion works at QAIA are well underway with the new passenger terminal extending over 100,000 square meters. AIG, under the terms of a 25 year concession agreement with the Jordanian government, is responsible for the operation of the airport, the rehabilitation of existing facilities, and the construction of the new terminal.
AIG is a Jordanian company with private shareholding by Invest AD Company (UAE), Noor Financial Investment Company (Kuwait), Edgo Group (Jordan), Joannou & Paraskevaides (Overseas) Limited (Cyprus), J&P-Avax (Greece) and Aéroports de Paris Management (France).
