Amman, March 2017 – Airport International Group – the Jordanian company responsible for the rehabilitation, expansion and operation of Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) – has announced its statistics for February 2017, indicating an improvement in year-on-year passenger traffic (PAX), as well as a decline in aircraft movements (ACM) and cargo traffic figures compared to the same month of last year.
In February 2017, QAIA welcomed 524,286 PAX compared with 501,862 PAX in February of last year, resulting in a 4.5% year-on-year increase. However, the Airport registered a 6.8% year-on-year drop in ACM figures, amounting to 5,204 in February of this year compared with last February’s 5,584 ACM. Moreover, QAIA handled 7,137 tons of cargo as opposed to 7,979 tons during the same month of last year, effecting a 10.6% fall.
Since the start of the year, QAIA received a total of 1,101,198 passengers, marking a 2.9% year-to-date (YTD) increase against PAX figures recorded during the same period last year. Additionally, during the first two months of 2017, YTD ACM figures fell by 4.0%, while cargo handled dropped by 8.8% compared to those recorded in January and February 2016.
“We are pleased to see that February’s passenger traffic figures have increased, complementing the rise we registered the previous month. We look forward to witnessing similar positive results in the upcoming period. This rise in passenger traffic figures validates the Airport’s recent accolades from the Airport Council International based on the results of its 2016 Airport Service Quality Survey, the world’s leading airport passenger satisfaction benchmark program,” said Airport International Group CEO, Kjeld Binger. “Not only did QAIA win first place in the category ‘Best Airport by Size and Region: Middle East’, which comprises airports serving 5 to 15 million passengers annually within the region, but it also tied for third place in the ‘Best Airport by Size’ category on the global level. These results are extremely encouraging, as they serve to reaffirm our vision for QAIA to contribute to the prosperity and pride of the Kingdom and our stakeholders as one of the world’s top airports in its category.”
